Book review – The 4 Pillar plan

The four pillar plan is a book by doctor Rangan Chatterjee, star of the BBC show Doctor in the House, author and public speaker.

This is his first book and Soza Health recommends it to it’s customers.

The book breaks down into four sections, relax, eat, move and sleep. Doctor Chatterjee introduces each concept with very clear narrative, written in plain English rather than medical speak. The book is rich with diagrams pictures and other graphics to demonstrate and explain the concepts that he introduces

In the relax section, he explains how looking after mental health, finding mee time and generally slowing down from the high tech life that most of us live, leads to better long term health. Modern life places many stresses and strains on our body and mind, and doesn’t allow us the time and space to rest and relax. Rest and relaxation is needed to trigger the automatic processes that your body uses recover and restore itself. Miss out on it, and your health is at risk.

The next section, Eat, covers the topic of sugar and how damaging excess sugar, glucose or sweeteners, can be to your health. He explains how a wide range and variety of food, part of a balanced diet, is the key to not only improving your health, but also to helping you recover from long term disease. This is the essence of the Soza message. You are what you eat.

The third section, Move. covers movement and introduces the concept of walking at least ten thousand steps everyday, and doing more vigorous exercise at least twice a week.

He explains why exercise is so important for your mental and physical health, and also explains how it affects your metabolism.
