Jesse Inchauspé, known as the Glucose goddess on Instagram, has written a well researched book called the Glucose Revolution, that explains our relationship with glucose. She explains how eating too much of it leads to fundamental health problems. The Daily Mail, a British newspaper, describes the book as a food revolution. This book will change the way to think about your health and will dramatically improve your health. It is a real eye opener.
The book is divided into 3 sections, with Section 1 answering the question what is glucose. Section 2 asking why are glucose spikes harmful. and Section 3 covering how an individual can flatten their glucose curve by altering what they eat, when they eat it, and which order foods are eaten in.
Section 1 explains why glucose is so important to you and goes a little bit into the biology of how plants create glucose. She explains the different types of glucose including starch, fibre, and fruit.
She then goes on to explain how glucose gets into our blood stream and how eating more glucose and the resulting pleasure it gives us, moves us into a vicious circle of dependency. An explanation of the concept of glucose spikes and how different foods create different spikes ends the section.
In Section 2 Jesse begins to explain why glucose spikes are so harmful, and how they create stress and inflammation in your body. She explains both the short and long term effects of too much sugar and how excess glucose makes you sick.
Section 3 introduces the concept of glucose curves. This is where the level of glucose in your blood stream rises as you eat sugary foods and then trails off later in the day
Jesse explains that eating the food on your plate in the correct order will help to flatten the curve. This will help reduce your glucose highs and lows, and help reduce your sugar cravings.
She then introduces a series of food hacks that help you get through the day without craving sugar. You will feel more energised, experiencing less of an after lunch drop or the need for an afternoon nap.
Jesse’s food hacks include an explanation of the powerful benefits of adding vinegar into your diet and why exercising after you eat is so important for you.
The final part of Section three lists recipes that are easy to source and easy to cook. They will not only help you manage your glucose levels but are also deliver a balanced and nutritious diet.
Glucose Revolution is a jaw dropper of a book. It reveals how dangerous some foods are to us, and lifts the veil on how to make informed choices that allow the individual to both enjoy food and manage their glucose levels.
